Kärcher, a global leader in cleaning technology from Germany, has joined forces with the Intramuros Administration (IA) to undertake a significant restorative cleaning project at Fort Santiago.
The initiative—part of Kärcher’s 90th anniversary challenge to complete 90 global cleaning projects in 2025—focused on revitalizing the main gate and wall façades of Baluartillo de San Miguel and Medio Baluarte de San Francisco.
The IA deployed key personnel for the project, who received training from Kärcher experts on the safe and efficient use of the company’s advanced cleaning equipment. Kärcher utilized hot water high-pressure cleaners in steam mode, operating at low pressure and high temperature, to effectively remove organic growth and prevent its recurrence.
Fort Santiago, built in 1571 during the Spanish colonial era, is a critical historical landmark within the historic walled city of Manila. The restoration project reflects the IA’s mission to preserve and promote Intramuros’ cultural heritage.
Kärcher’s commitment to cultural preservation extends beyond Fort Santiago, with previous restorative cleaning projects in the Philippines including St. Andrew’s Cathedral, San Sebastian Basilica, Plaza Miranda, San Agustin Church, People Power Monument, and the Rizal Monument.
Globally, Kärcher has completed over 200 such projects, demonstrating its dedication to preserving historical monuments.
