The Makati City government has acquired five electric vehicles to be used by its Public Safety Department (PSD).

The five Hyundai IONIQ 5 standard range units will be deployed as response vehicles to help keep and ensure the safety of Makati’s residents and transients.

The fleet was turned over in a ceremony at the Makati City Hall’s open grounds last January 18. Present during the handover ceremony were Hyundai Motor Group and Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc. executives, as well as Makati City officials and members.

“As a resilience hub, we recognize our critical role in addressing environmental concerns,” said Mayor Abby Binay. “By introducing, Hyundai IONIQ 5 electric vehicles into our public safety fleet, we not only enhance our emergency response capabilities but also contribute to reducing air pollution and our overall carbon footprint. This move not only bolsters our emergency services but also sets an example for other cities to follow in the pursuit of sustainable urban living,”

To ensure the continuous operation of the EVs, chargers will be installed at the Makati City Hall, as well as in the Barangay Halls of Palanan and Guadalupe Viejo.

Since 2016, the City of Makati has been rolling out initiatives and forming partnerships in support of its sustainability and resilience endeavors. Just recently, it was recognized as the sole finalist from Asia Pacific at the prestigious 2023 World Smart Cities Awards.

The IONIQ 5 comes with a 5-year or 200,000-km vehicle warranty, 8-year or 160,000-km battery warranty, and free Preventive Maintenance Service (PMS) for 5 years or 75,000-km, whichever comes first. Along with these, is the free installation of a 7.4KWh AC wall charger.
