HONOR X9b 5G–the successor of the viral HONOR X9a 5G—will be officially launched on January 12 live on Facebook at 7pm.

Prior to that, however, HONOR Philippines invited the media partners to an Ultra Tough Challenge camp where the ultra-tough smartphone was subjected to a series of tests.

The HONOR X9b 5G withstood a Hummer runover, as well as a vigorous smash test relay, where participants smashed as many tiles as possible in 30 seconds. Guests also aimed for the phone’s ultra-tough display in competitive paintball, sparring, and archery contests. To top it off, the phone X9b 5G aced a 50-foot drop test.

Now, the question remains: Can it survive a 100-foot drop? You’ll have to watch the live launch on January 12 to find out.

“HONOR X9b 5G has been proven durable as the device was carefully studied and has undergone three tempering processes and we are sure that it can surpass the success of its predecessor,” said HONOR Philippines Vice President Stephen Cheng.

“Advice for the public though, while we are confident that it will survive intense pressure, intentional dropping and smashing might still cause physical damage to the phone,” he added.

The HONOR X9b 5G features a 120Hz curved AMOLED screen and a micron-sized gap structure to ensure a 360° drop resistance. It also comes with a 5800mAh battery, and a triple rear camera setup headlined by a 108MP main camera.

More details will be revealed on January 12, 7pm.
