If you’ve ever taken a Grab ride, you know how important clear communication is between drivers and passengers—whether it’s specifying a drop-off landmark or making a special request, like adjusting the air conditioning. For hearing passengers, these are simple conversations. But for deaf drivers, communication can be more challenging. That’s where the Grab CommuniKit comes in.

The Grab CommuniKit is a visual communication tool designed to enhance rides for PWD driver-partners and their passengers. The kit—consisting of pre-printed postcards with common phrases and requests, a whiteboard, and a marker—aims to bridge communication gaps and create a more inclusive ride experience.

The kit was co-created with DeafED Philippines, the National Association of Sign Language Interpreters, and the community of PWD Grab driver-partners themselves.

“In championing inclusive success for everyone in the digital economy, it is with full dedication that we make sure nobody is left behind,” Grab Philippines Country Head Ronald Roda shared.

“As we create livelihood opportunities for tens of thousands of our kababayans, it is our goal to also empower marginalized groups such as deaf drivers to grab the same tech-enabled opportunities – serving as the catalyst for achieving their aspirations while they contribute as integral members of our fleet regardless of their disability,” he added.

“The Grab CommuniKit has enhanced my connection with passengers, enabling me to deliver the exceptional service they expect from a GrabCar ride,” said Vic Diaz, one of the driver-partners who received a Grab CommuniKit.

“It has also been invaluable for passengers with the same disability, as well as foreign passengers, by facilitating better communication with me. Honestly, the kit has greatly eased my daily experience on the road.”

The kit is stored in the central console organizer of Grab Car vehicles, readily accessible to both driver and passenger.
