After several leaks, there’s not much left to reveal about the Pixel 8 series. But that doesn’t diminish the phones’ brilliance.
As scheduled, Google officially unveiled its next generation of Pixel smartphones equipped with a new processor, upgraded cameras, and seven years of OS and security upgrades. Now that’s a huge leap from the three years OS upgrades/five years security support for previous Pixel phones.
Both the Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are powered by the new Tensor G3 processor, which is responsible for a lot of the new AI features on board. This chip is accompanied by the Titan M2 security chip.
The Pixel 8 Pro has 12GB of RAM and offers up to 1TB of storage, while the Pixel 8 has 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.
The Pixel 8 Pro’s 6.7-inch QHD+ LTPO 120Hz OLED with 2400 nits peak is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
On the back of the Pixel 8 Pro are the 50MP f/1.68 main camera with 1/1.3-inch Samsung GN2 sensor and LDAF, 48MP f/1.95 125-degree ultra-wide camera with macro option, and a 48MP f/2.8 5x telephoto camera with Samsung GM5 sensor and 30x digital zoom. It supports 10-bit HDR recording, Cinematic Blur, and 4K at 60 fps recording.

On the back of the Pixel 8 are a 50MP wide shooter with OIS, a 48MP ultrawide, and a 48MP 5x zoom camera with up to 30x Super-Res digital zoom. In front is a 10.5MP wide shooter.
Exclusive to the Pixel 8 Pro is a new skin temperature sensor sitting next to the cameras. According to Google, you can use the sensor to scan the temperature of objects and surfaces, like if your pan is hot enough for cooking. The company has also submitted an application to the FDA to enable the Thermometer App to take your temperature and save it to Fitbit.
The Pixel 8 Pro comes with a 5050mAh battery with 30W wired charging and 23W wireless charging. It’s available in three colorways: Obsidian, Porcelain, and Bay.
Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 is equipped with a smaller 6.2-inch FHD+ 60/120Hz AMOLED screen with Gorilla Glass Victus on top, a 50MP main camera with 8x Super-Res digital zoom, a 12MP ultrawide, and the same 10.5MP selfie shooter.
Keeping the lights on is a 4575mAh battery with 27W wired fast charging and 18W wireless charging.
The Pixel 8 can be had in Obsidian, Hazel, or Rose colorways.
Apart from the seven-year OS and security upgrades, both Pixel phones come with a free VPN by Google One.
