For those who want more than a basic fitness band but don’t need a full smartwatch, the new Google Fitbit Edge offers a middle ground with workout tracking, health insights, and smart features in a compact design.

At 11.5mm thick, the Fitbit Edge features a recycled aluminum housing and a 1.34-inch AMOLED display. Users can customize watch faces, swap bands, and access features such as Google Maps, media controls, and call and message notifications.

For workouts, the tracker supports more than 50 exercise modes and can automatically recognize up to 100 types of activities. Its built-in GPS works without a phone, with Google claiming up to 40% better tracking accuracy than the previous generation.

Health features include continuous heart-rate monitoring, sleep-stage tracking, skin-temperature readings, heart-rate variability, and an ECG app. Some additional health insights and personalized guidance—such as Google Health Coach and adaptive fitness plans—require a Google Health Premium subscription.

Google says the Fitbit Edge can last up to seven days per charge. A five-minute magnetic charge can provide up to a day of battery life, while water resistance up to 50 meters makes it suitable for swimming. It is also Fitbit’s first repairable tracker, with a replaceable battery.

Google also introduced a Stephen Curry Special Edition, developed with the four-time NBA champion and Google Performance Advisor. It features signature rye tones and game-day orange.

The Google Fitbit Edge is now available for pre-order in select markets for US$179.99 (Classic) and $219.99 (Special Edition).
