Fujifilm is pressing fast-forward and rewind at the same time with the launch of the new instax mini Evo Cinema, a playful new instant camera that brings video into the instax world for the very first time. Part instant camera, part mini camcorder, and part smartphone printer, the mini Evo Cinema is designed for people who love capturing moments as much as they love sharing them.
The retro-inspired camera comes with a dedicated “Eras Dial.” With a simple twist, you can hop across decades—shifting from the grainy feel of 1960s 8mm film to the sleek, polished look of the 2020s. Each era effect works for both photos and videos, with adjustable levels that unlock up to 100 unique looks. Some video modes even layer in subtle sound effects, like the gentle whir of a film reel, for an extra cinematic touch.
By holding down the shutter button, you can record clips up to 15 seconds long, pausing and resuming for easy cuts. The clever part comes after: print a still from the video and it comes with a QR code. Scan it, and the video plays right on your phone.
Styled after classic 8mm cameras, the Mini Evo Cinema keeps instax’s signature portability while adding an LCD screen, self-timer, remote shooting, and smartphone printing via the instax app.
The instax mini Evo will be available in Japan on January 30. A local release date has not yet been announced.
