MOVE IT is making a significant impact on urban transportation in the Philippines by reshaping the lives of numerous habal-habal drivers. This motorcycle taxi company has not just changed the way people commute, but it has also supported informal drivers by professionalizing their skills and enhancing their livelihoods.

Placido Parallag Jr., a 58-year-old former habal-habal rider, is a testament to this. Since joining MOVE IT in 2019, his dedication and exceptional service led to him being recognized as one of MOVE IT’s Top Riders in 2023. This notable achievement was celebrated at the recent MOVE IT Year-End Festival at the Philippine Sports Arena.

For a decade, Placido navigated the chaotic streets of Metro Manila as a habal-habal rider. His decision to join MOVE IT marked a turning point.

Placido explained that former habal-habal riders, including himself, choose to join MOVE IT for reasons such as insurance, providing confidence in the daily protection of both riders and passengers.

He also mentioned a significant increase in his income, as he now earns double what he earned from his previous informal practices. This allows him to better support his family and save for his lifelong dream of building a home for his family in Tuguegarao.

“We are committed to helping the government in professionalizing habal-habal riders,” said MOVE IT general manager Wayne Jacinto. “At MOVE IT, we focus on providing livelihood that is safe, legal, trustworthy, and dependable for every moto-taxi rider whose only wish is to support their families.”

Beyond financial benefits, MOVE IT’s initiatives include comprehensive training and the ‘Habal-Habal to Legal’ program, offering guidance and support to habal-habal riders transitioning to the platform. These programs ensure adherence to safety standards and legal regulations, elevating the quality of service.
