After several teasers on its social media channel, Volkswagen Philippines has confirmed that it will be launching its latest compact crossover in the Philippines soon.

The first batch of the Volkswagen Tharu, the German automaker’s new global SUV, arrived at the Port of Batangas last week.

The Tharu, which is touted to be Volkswagen’s showcase of next-level SUV innovations, will be officially launched on September 29 at the Karrera Café in Filinvest City, Alabang, Muntinlupa.

The public display and test drive of the two available variants—the SE and top-of-the-line SEL—will be on September 30 and October 1.

The Tharu, or Taos in other markets, is a SAIC-Volkswagen product that became a global product after it was introduced in North America, South America, and Eastern Europe.

Volkswagen Philippines has yet to reveal the specs, but a closer look at the rear badge reveals the words, “300TSI.”

This probably means that the PH-spec Tharu will be the same as the one unveiled in China early this year: a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine (158hp, 250Nm) mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic. `

The Tharu will come in sophisticated colors such as Pure White, Mangan Grey, Petroleum Blue, and Polytech Blue.
