Express transportation company FedEx Express has set a record for successfully completing the first cross-border package delivery from Malaysia to Singapore using an electric vehicle (EV).

The milestone, recognized by the Malaysian Book of Records as the “First Zero Emission Cross-Border Delivery,” highlights FedEx’s commitment to achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2040.

The journey covered 406 kilometers, starting from a FedEx station in Shah Alam and ending at a FedEx facility at Changi Airport in Singapore, with a single charge in Johor. This effort resulted in a reduction of approximately 100kg of tailpipe CO2 emissions when compared to diesel-powered vans.

“This cross-border trial has been a successful proof of concept that will help advance our fleet electrification program. This will be pivotal in shaping the future of its operations, which will not only benefit the environment, but also improve the efficiency of its fleet, while providing excellent service to its customers,” said Kawal Preet, president of Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa region at FedEx.

FedEx is using the insights gained from this trial to assess operational effectiveness for future cross-border pick-up and delivery operations.  In addition to vehicle electrification, FedEx has a tailored approach to efficient and responsible resource management of both its air and ground operations. This aligns with FedEx’s sustainability strategy focusing on three Rs: Reduce, Replace, Revolutionize. Efforts include saving fuel, investing in renewable energy, and using sustainable packaging.
