QR codes may be convenient, but they’re now being used in a new wave of scams—and GCash wants users to stay on guard.

The platform recently uncovered and blocked multiple accounts connected to illegal gambling websites. These groups were reportedly creating fake GCash payment pages and posing as legitimate merchants to receive payments. At a glance, the pages look authentic, even mimicking QRPh screens, making it easy for users to be misled into sending money.

Before you click “Pay,” take a moment to double-check everything. Make sure the merchant name matches who you’re actually paying, and watch out for pages that look off or redirect somewhere unfamiliar.

If you think you’ve encountered a fake page—or worse, already sent money—report it immediately via the GCash app. And remember: never share your MPIN, OTP, or account details.

As digital payments continue to grow, a little extra caution can go a long way.
