The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) will deploy Alibaba Cloud’s Energy Expert solution for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
This cloud-based platform will be able to consolidate all energy-related data during the Olympics and Paralympics—such as electricity consumption, power demand contingency, venue capacity, competition-related information, and onsite weather conditions—into one easy-to-understand dashboard.
The deployment will be be applied to all 35 competition venues.
Energy Expert leverages artificial intelligence to provide venue-specific forecasts and recommendations for power optimization. This will help minimize energy waste, among others.
For a more comprehensive picture, a selection of venues will be outfitted with smart electric meters that will capture real-time electricity consumption across various areas—from playing fields to media zones. These detailed datasets will be invaluable for future Olympic Committees.
Energy Expert debuted in June 2022 and saw its first sporting event application at the 2023 Olympic Esports Week in Singapore. The solution was trialed to measure and analyze carbon emissions from temporary constructions built to host the Olympic Esports Week, to generate data-driven insights on the choice of materials and equipment used at the event.
Beyond the sports environments and applications, Energy Expert also helps over 3,000 customers worldwide measure, analyze, and manage the carbon emissions of their business activities and products. The solution also provides actionable insights and energy-saving recommendations to help customers accelerate their sustainability journeys.
