Acer has announced its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality for its Aspire Vero laptop series, starting from the new Aspire Vero 16 (AV16-51P).
Following international standards for carbon footprint calculation and carbon neutrality, Acer is taking steps in each stage of the laptop’s life to reduce its carbon footprint.
“To help tackle the increasing challenges posed by climate change, on the product side, Acer is proposing ‘conscious technology’ designed and made with consideration for the future,” said Jerry Kao, COO, Acer Inc. “On the corporate side, Acer has joined the RE100 initiative and committed to achieving 100% renewable electricity by 2035. We have also pledged to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.”
Since the inception of the series, Aspire Vero laptops have been eco-consciously designed with the goal of minimizing their carbon footprint throughout their lifecycle—from manufacturing to packaging to end-of-life recycling.
The latest iteration of the product, the Aspire Vero 16 (AV16-51P) demonstrates a commitment to sustainability in various aspects. The chassis is made from over 60% recycled plastic, with its surface containing no volatile organic compounds, paint, or additives. The touchpad uses ocean-bound plastic.
The laptop also features the latest energy-efficient Intel Core Ultra processors and Intel AI Boost for AI capabilities.
Acer is also taking steps to reduce the carbon footprint associated with packaging and shipping. Scrap materials generated during production are recycled, and the packaging is made from 100% recyclable materials. The company has also partnered with logistics providers to reduce emissions during shipping by utilizing biofuel.
To ensure energy efficiency during usage, Acer has developed AcerSense battery management software for the Aspire Vero 16.
In addition to these emission reduction efforts, Acer plans to offset any remaining carbon emissions from the Aspire Vero laptop line by retiring high-quality carbon credits.
The Acer Aspire Vero 16 is set to be released in January in Las Vegas, with exact specifications, prices, and availability varying by region.
