Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max bring a slate of upgrades aimed at making the iPhone more capable for photography, gaming, everyday use and more. Here are eight things to know about the new Pro models.
1. The camera gets its biggest upgrade yet
Both models feature a new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture—the first time an iPhone offers aperture control. It can automatically adjust for lighting and depth, or let users manually select from four aperture settings.
2. The Camera app gets more pro controls
Users can manually adjust aperture, shutter speed and white balance, while a histogram provides a way to monitor exposure.
3. Video gets more flexible
Cinematic effects can now be applied after recording videos shot at up to 60fps, while Time-lapse supports 4K and Dolby Vision HDR.
4. Photos can be checked for authenticity
Apple Reference Image helps users verify whether a photo taken on iPhone 18 Pro has been edited by creating an unalterable reference copy based on data captured directly by the camera sensor. The reference image can be viewed alongside the original in the Photos app, making it easier to compare the two and spot changes.
5. The Dynamic Island gets more useful
The redesigned Dynamic Island can display up to three Live Activities at once while retaining Face ID functionality.
6. Performance gets a major boost
The new A20 Pro chip and redesigned vapor chamber deliver up to 40 percent higher sustained performance than the previous generation.
7. Battery life is longer
The iPhone 18 Pro offers up to 34 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max reaches up to 43 hours. The iPhone 18 Pro can reach up to 50% charge in about 15 minutes with a wired connection or 30 minutes wirelessly. On the iPhone 18 Pro Max, just five minutes of wired charging can provide around seven hours of video playback, while a full charge delivers up to 29 hours of use.
8. There’s a new color
The Pro models come in black, silver, glacier, and the new burgundy finish.
