Sun Life Global Solutions (SLGS) Philippines, the Global Capability Centre of Sun Life, celebrated Women’s Month by hosting “IT Girls: Empowering the Youth in their IT Careers,” a workshop aimed at inspiring and equipping young women for careers in information technology.

The event, held in partnership with WiTech (Women in Technology), brought together students from various universities for an afternoon of informative talks and interactive activities led by SLGS Philippines leaders.

The workshop provided valuable insights into navigating the IT industry and highlighted career opportunities within SLGS.


Student participants share their innovative ideas created in less than 20 minutes to the Sun Life Global Solutions executives and employees.

SLGS Philippines teams eagerly answer some of the students’ questions about a career in technology.

The workshop featured presentations and discussions on key IT trends, including GenAI, Big Data, and Robotic Process Automation, led by Jennifer Lumbao, SLGS Head of Asia Technology.

SLGS also showcased its innovative solutions, such as Sun Buddy, a 24/7 advisor assistant, and Sun Life Asks, an internal GenAI chatbot recognized at the 2024 CIO Awards Canada.

The Sun Life mobile app, designed to enhance client engagement, was also highlighted. The app also includes an office locator, a find-an-advisor feature and a frequently asked questions section. 

Attendees participated in a design thinking exercise focused on improving financial wellness, receiving feedback from SLGS coaches and leaders.

Katrina Rodriguez, SLGS Philippines Human Resources and Communications Head, provided career guidance, including interview and workplace tips, and showcased the company’s “Sun Risers” onboarding program.

SLGS Philippines emphasized its commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEI&B) initiatives, including the “Bright Women” program and employee-led Inclusion Networks, which provide mentorship and career development opportunities for women in tech.

The company also celebrated International Women’s Day with the theme “Her Health, Her Power,” featuring various activities aimed at promoting women’s well-being and empowerment.
