For many Filipinos, online shopping used to come with a familiar trade-off: choice versus waiting time. Living outside major urban centers often meant fewer options, higher shipping costs, and longer delivery days—sometimes stretching close to a week. In an archipelagic country like the Philippines, geography has always shaped how e-commerce fits into daily life.

Today, that experience is quietly changing, especially for shoppers and sellers in Visayas and Mindanao.

As Shopee Philippines marks more than a decade in the country, it is deepening its investment in VisMin, with the goal of making online shopping feel less about distance and more about convenience. The shift is already noticeable for many buyers, who are seeing everyday essentials arrive faster and more predictably than before.

One reason is how sellers are now able to bring products closer to customers. Through Fulfilled by Shopee (FBS), merchants can store inventory in Shopee-supported facilities, with packing and delivery handled through the platform’s third-party logistics partners. The result is a smoother experience on both sides: sellers spend less time managing shipping, while buyers benefit from shorter delivery routes.

For customers in Visayas and Mindanao, this means less reliance on long cross-island shipments and more consistent access to items that were once harder to get. Average delivery times for many VisMin orders have dropped from around seven days to just three to four—making online shopping easier to plan around daily routines.

“Making e-commerce work for the whole country means continuing to build capabilities that serve both buyers and sellers wherever they live,” said Vincent Lee, Head of Shopee Philippines. “Our focus in Visayas and Mindanao builds on years of work to make buying and selling online easier and more reliable, while improving access for communities outside major urban centers.”

It’s not just about faster shipping. Shopee continues to invest in Filipino MSMEs through initiatives like Shopee University, where sellers have clocked over 110,000 hours learning hands-on skills in pricing, marketing, and customer service, enabling small businesses to grow beyond geographic limits.

Alongside these efforts, Shopee expects its VisMin operations to support around 1,500 employment opportunities by 2026, across platform operations and seller enablement roles that support participation and growth within the e-commerce ecosystem.

As Shopee enters its next decade in the Philippines, its focus remains on expanding access, supporting livelihoods, and helping e-commerce grow more evenly across the country.
