For MOVE IT, safety on the road goes beyond helmets and headlights. The motorcycle taxi platform has launched Driver-Led, Tech-Reinforced Safety Commitment. a new safety push that combines rider training with live safety technologies.
The company claims that 99.999% of trips are incident-free, and its efforts are now aimed at addressing the tiny fraction of cases where issues arise.
“Near-perfect isn’t the finish line,” said MOVE IT General Manager Wayne Jacinto. “Leadership in safety means raising the bar every day—professional riders, real-time protection, and transparent accountability on every single trip.”
At its recent Moto-Taxi Road Safety Dialogue, 31 rider-partner communities signed the “Katuwang sa Kaligtasan sa Kalsada” pledge, cementing a shared commitment to safer roads.
This effort is anchored on MOVE IT’s Pasado Bago Pasada framework, which requires strict government clearance, bi-annual retraining, and continuous upskilling for all riders.
The onboarding process reflects MOVE IT’s strict compliance standards: only six in 10 motorcycles pass initial inspection, and only eight in 10 riders clear the initial skills test, with the remainder retrained until they meet safety benchmarks. All riders are likewise mandated to retrain every six months.
MOVE IT is also introducing a Behavioral Assessment Tool developed with Ateneo’s Bulatao Center for Psychological Services. The tool evaluates judgment, stress management, and decision-making in real-world situations.
Technology plays an equally critical role. In its 2023 relaunch, MOVE IT introduced innovations such as live location sharing, in-app SOS integration, passenger and driver verification selfies, and AI-driven trip monitoring.
The platform has since expanded its safety stack with additional tools, including overspeeding alerts, fatigue detection nudges, and AudioProtect, which records trip audio for greater fairness and security.
Accountability measures include preventive suspensions for high-risk reports, quick emergency response by volunteer riders, and comprehensive insurance for both passengers and riders.
The Coalition for Filipino Commuters praised these efforts but stressed the need for national motorcycle taxi legalization to standardize safety practices.
“Safety is not a milestone but a daily mission. We will continue to raise the standards — through professional riders, progressive technology, and fair accountability — until every commuter embraces motorcycle taxis as a truly reliable and viable transport option for our nation,” said Jacinto.
