Talk about starting the year with a bang!

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) welcomed 2023 with the local debut of its wildly popular, high-performance icon, the Civic Type R.

The 6th generation Honda Civic Type R is based on the 11th-gen Honda Civic hatchback, and is by far the most powerful model in Type R’s 30-year history.

How powerful, you ask? Well, under the hood of this beast is a 2.0-liter i-VTEC turbocharged engine that churns out a mighty 325hp and 420Nm. The powertrain is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with a Rev Match Control System for smoother and more precise shifting.

But that’s not all. The all-new Civic Type R also comes with four driving modes: Comfort, Sport, +R, and individual mode, which is new and is customizable by the driver.

Designed with input from aerodynamic development members of the HRC Sakura Super GT race team, the all-new Civic Type R features a new bumper that reduces side wake, functional front fender air outlets, and a side sill garnish which enhances efficiency.

It also features wide rear doors, a reshaped rear bumper, three-round exhaust outlets, redesigned rear spoiler with aluminum stanchions, and a new rear diffuser that increases downforce and reduces drag.

Other notable exterior features include LED headlamps, redesigned LED taillamps, Matte Black finished 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 265/30 high-performance tires, a tailgate spoiler, tri-tip tailpipe diffuser, and the Type R badges.

Inside, the Civic Type R has a black-and-red motif, dominated by the red racing-inspired Type R bucket seats treated in Alcantara. Adding to the sportiness of the cabin is an aluminum shift knob.

On the tech side, there’s a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; a 12-speaker Bose sound system; a 10.2-inch fully-digital instrument cluster; wireless charging pad; smart entry with a smart key card; and more.

The Type R also comes with a Honda LogR Performance Datalogger that monitors driving activity using both the car’s sensors and a built-in vehicle app.

The 2023 Civic Type R comes with the full suite of Honda SENSING features, which include the following:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Road Departure Mitigation
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Auto-High Beam
Aside from the iconic racing-heritage color, Championship White, the all-new Honda Civic Type R is also available in Racing Blue Pearl.

The all-new Honda Civic Type R retails for P3,880,000 for the sole 2.0 VTEC Turbo Honda SENSING MT variant.
