Could your invention change the world?

The James Dyson Award 2026 is now open, inviting Filipino university students and recent graduates to submit inventions that tackle real-world challenges. The globally recognized design engineering competition encourages innovations that combine originality, technical feasibility, and a clear solution to pressing problems.

Shortlisted entries in the Philippines will be reviewed by a national judging panel of design and engineering experts, including Dyson engineers. National winners will receive P398,280 and the opportunity to advance to the international stage, where Sir James Dyson himself will select global winners to receive P2,390,230 and a platform to bring their ideas to market.

Over its 20-year history, the James Dyson Award has received more than 2,100 inventions worldwide, addressing issues from healthcare and disaster relief to environmental sustainability. Filipino winners have developed solutions that impact communities and classrooms across the country.

In 2023, Jeremy De Leon’s Make-Roscope tackled a long-standing barrier in Filipino classrooms: the lack of accessible science equipment. The device transforms a smartphone or tablet into a microscope, enabling students to explore the microscopic world. Make-Roscope has since grown into JereMAKE, reaching over 12,000 users and partnering with 70+ schools nationwide.

SolAsin, on the other hand, was developed by 2025 Philippine National Winner John Carlo Reyes. The sun-driven salt farming unit allows small-scale producers to achieve higher-quality, consistent flaky salt. This improves efficiency and livelihoods in coastal communities.

Entries for the James Dyson Award 2026 can be submitted until July 15 via the official website. Aspiring inventors are encouraged to submit designs that demonstrate thoughtful problem-solving, originality, and practical implementation.
