The James Dyson Award, an international student design and engineering competition, is now accepting submissions for its 2025 program. Students in 28 countries and regions are invited to showcase their problem-solving ideas, addressing everything from everyday challenges to pressing global issues.
Since its inception in 2005, the James Dyson Award has provided over P70 million in prize money and a vital platform for more than 400 student inventions. Global winners selected by Sir James Dyson will receive a substantial prize of P2,168,000 and a chance to gain international media exposure that will help faciliate the commercialization of their innovations.
Past Filipino winners and finalists include Joseph Aristotle De Leon’s RAMUN (Resistivity Acquisition and Monitoring of the Underground), a real-time underground monitoring system aiding in flood and groundwater management, which was the 2024 Philippine National Winner.
Jeremy De Leon’s Make-roscope, a portable smartphone microscope, made the 2023 International Top 20. Meanwhile, Emmanuelle Pangilinan and Jason Pechardo’s Brakong, a sustainable and comfortable breast prosthesis, achieved the same recognition in 2022.
The deadline for submissions is midnight on July 16. National winners, each receiving P361,300, will be announced on September 10, followed by the Global Top 20 on October 15, and the Global Winners on November 5. Entries will be judged based on functionality, design process, differentiation, and commercial viability.
