Are you tired of fitness watches looking like, well, fitness watches? You know—with the boxy, sporty aesthetic. Sure, they get the job done, but if you’re dressing up, for sure you’ll pull out a separate watch to match a classier outfit. In a perfect world, that sounds swell. But when you’re a salary man who needs to pay the bills but wants to enjoy life’s luxuries, maybe you’d prefer a watch that can go from day to night—just like how a good pair of pants or a little black dress would. And that’s exactly what the Huawei GT 3 Pro is.
There are a lot of features and highlights packed into Huawei’s latest smartwatch, and here at Speed, we will try to share everything we’ve come to love about the watch in the two weeks we’ve spent time with it.
The Huawei GT 3 Pro smartwatch screams classy and sleek at first sight. It’s evident that passion was poured into its craftmanship, delivering that seamless titanium body, with precision-cut edges and corners that work all the angles.
We got the 46mm version with the gray leather strap, which was perfect for casual dress-ups. The leather was comfortable and beautifully trimmed at the sides for that extra luxurious feel. If leather is not your thing, the GT 3 Pro also comes in a ceramic version for those who’d like something even dressier, as well as a rubber strap version for those who’d like to use it for diving and intense physical activities.
Honestly, its build and design is what we absolutely love about the GT 3 Pro. Smartwatches like these usually come at a steep price, but Huawei has somehow made it work and brought it down to such a friendly price given how beautiful it wears.
One of the best parts about this watch is its gorgeous watch dial (it’s durable, too, thanks to the sapphire glass lens). You can customize the dial to your heart’s content. Because the watch itself is already beautiful, choosing the right watch face just takes it to a whole new different level. While a lot of the preinstalled watch faces are great, some of our personal favorites have to be purchased. But P49 for a great design sounds very reasonable, doesn’t it?
It helps also that the Huawei GT 3 Pro comes with a 1.43-inch AMOLED touch display to truly show off its beautiful watch faces. You can choose to keep the face always on so it’s just like a regular watch, where people can admire it from any angle.
We personally like the sleek and classy watch faces that luxury watches usually come in, but for something more convenient, you’d appreciate the more interactive ones. These interactive watch faces are customizable so you can choose which apps you’d like to access immediately. Just tap the icons on the face of the watch; no need to open the app drawer by clicking on the crown.
And when we said that the watch’s crystal is durable, we mean “bring out the diamond” durable. We tried to scratch the surface of the watch with a cutter just to test it out and yes, it emerged safe and scratch-proof. So if you don’t have loose diamond bits hanging around, you don’t have to worry about the watch.
There’s little room to mess up here, since Huawei has been working on the health and wellness features of its smartwatches for a while now. But there has been a lot of improvement from their previous tech, such as the accuracy of their medical-grade ECG measurement, which can produce real-time analysis with just a touch of the ECG button.
They also have arterial stiffness detection to help you screen for arteriosclerosis, smart heart rate so you can keep track when your heart rate strays from its normal range, SpO2 measurements, and sleep and stress monitoring so you can stay proactive and informed about your health.
Huawei is also proud that they have integrated over 100+ workout modes into the GT 3 Pro, so you can track your activity whatever sport you choose to do. You can also customize your program for maximum results. If diving is your thing, no need to switch to a dive watch because the GT 3 Pro comes with an IP68 and 5 ATM rating for free dives as deep as 30 meters.
We tried wearing the watch during a custom workout and it’s nice that the watch reminds you every 10 minutes how long you’ve been working out for and what heart rate you’re hitting.
More features to love
One thing that we’re very particular with about smartwatches is the constant need to charge. Of course, more capabilities mean more juice needed. But Huawei has made the GT 3 Pro a battery superpower, allowing up to 14 days of full wear before its battery runs out. While we have not gotten to 14 days, intensive use of the watch gave us 5 to 6 days, which is already pretty impressive for a watch that does a lot of things. The fast wireless charging was also very handy to have, since you can charge up to 25% in just 10 minutes.
We also love the ease of taking phone calls straight from the watch, since it’s equipped with a speaker and microphone. The clarity is good, with little to no delay. You can even dial recent contacts directly from the watch if you’re in a hurry.
In terms of notifications, we appreciate how we can see and read all incoming messages, and even reply with custom quick responses if we’re in the middle of something important. In fact, some watch faces have a tiny mail icon that doesn’t disrupt the design of the watch, but lets you know you have an unread message. What we would have liked to improve is if we can integrate other messaging notifications such as Facebook Messenger or Viber.
We also have to give brownie points to the rotating crown of the watch, which functions as a scroll button. Although the watch face is already touch-enabled, the haptic feedback on the crown feels great to use.
We tested the Huawei GT 3 Pro with a Huawei phone, so were also able to use the watch as a Bluetooth shutter for the camera, which is great when you want to take selfies or groufies. However, this feature only works with Huawei smartphones, so while the GT 3 Pro pairs well with other Android or Apple devices, you can still miss out on some of these functionalities.
Overall, we are so in love with the Huawei GT 3 Pro and it has become our “one (smart)watch to rule them all.” We use it for workdays, exercise, and even dress-up dinners. The fact that it’s sleek and luxurious enough to go from day to night makes it such a steal at P16,999.
